Biographical Sketches of Well-Known San Joseans
THE STORY OF THEIR SUCCESS.
W.K. Jenkines
Courteous
and cordial, fair and square in his business transactions, W.K.
Jenkines, although but two years a resident of and business man of San
Jose, has made a host of friends. He is a native of West Virginia,
where he was born August 27, 1863. In January 1884, he came to
California, settling in Marin county where he was employed in general
merchandising business until he came to make San Jose his home. Mr.
Jenkines purchased the old stand of J.L. Reidy, at 114 and 116 South
First street, and opened up an attractive and well-assorted stock of
gents' furnishing goods, hats, trunks, and valises, in the hat
department carrying the famous Stetson goods. It was the second store
of this nature established in San Jose, and carries the largest stock
in this line in the county, and from the start has proved a success.
One can be sure of obtaining the "Korrect" thing in neckwear, underwear
and hats if they get them at a store devoted entirely to those lines,
and Jenkines' is the popular store in San Jose. Mr. Jenkines was
married June 17, 1891 to Miss May McCraken, a well-known San Jose young
lady.
