V.B. Scanlon

V.B Scanlon of the firm of Scanlan & O'Rourke, proprietor of the New
Alameda Market, was born in Sierra county, California, July, 19, 1862. For
most of his life he has resided at the mines, coming to San Jose two years
ago when he formed a partnership with John O'Rourke, and bought out the old
established Alameda Market. In his two years residence Mr. Scanlan has
formed an extensive business acquaintance, largely through his efforts the
firm has built up one of the most extensive meat trades in San Jose. The
shop, which is located on the Alameda near the narrow-guage depot, is
extremely neat and attractive in appearance, and has one feature not common
to meat markets, and that is seats for customers to use while waiting to be
served. The firm run two wagons to all parts of the city and suburbs. The
meat is the best the country affords, and Messrs. Scanlan & O'Rourke do
their own slaughtering.
