THE STORY OF THEIR SUCCESS
J.D. Miner
Of
the hardware firm of Miner & Van Sant was born at Columbus, Ohio,
in September 1864. Upon completion of his education he entered one of
the largest hardware jobbing houses in the State where he mastered the
rudiments of his business.
Two years ago he started for the West
on the outlook for a good business opening, stopping first at Salt Lake
City where he was for a time connected with the largest hardware house
there. Hearing most favorable reports of San Jose, Mr. Miner in
conjunction with W.C. Van Sant decided to investigate the business
prospects of this section of the State with the intention of opening a
new establishment. Finding that Mr. J. Boschken was about to retire
from business on account of poor health, they very wisely purchased the
old established stand at 136 South First street, and during the past
year have done a large and satisfactory business.
