Andrew J. Cory, A.M., M.D. The subject of this sketch was born in
Oxford, Butler county, Ohio, December 25, 1832. He received his
education in his native county, and after graduating from the High school, took his
degree in the State University at Oxford, Miami University, in 1855. He
then commenced a course of studies in the Ohio Medical College at
Cincinnati, Ohio, and left there full of honor in 1860. In that year he
sailed from the city of New York to California, and landed in San Francisco, June 13,
1860, and coming direct to San Jose, he has since continuously
practiced his profession. During the nine years, commencing 1861 and ending in 1871,
he has had charge of the County Hospital, while for eight years he has
been County Coroner, as will be gathered from the Table at the end of this work.
Dr. Cory married, October 23, 1861, Albertenia, daughter of John
French, an old pioneer, a native of Wisconsin, and has: Ben Brodie,
born 1863; Janie, born 1865; Bertie, born 1872, died 1878. The Doctor's office is at room 16 Commercial Bank Building, San Jose.
